Prishtina,  10 December 2013  - Basic Court in Mitrovica yesterday rejected the defence’s request for the release of Sami Lushtaku for several hours in order to make oath at the Skenderaj Municipal Assembly, as he in the last election even though imprisoned was re-elected mayor of this municipality.

Lushtaku, who is currently in custody on suspicion of war crimes, won over 88% of the vote on November 3rd in the race for mayor, but if not sworn according to law, the municipality can go to extraordinary elections.

Minister of Local Government Administration, Slobodan Petrovic, said that the law provides for elected mayor oath in front of the councillors and according to him, there can be no oath through written statement.
