Prishtina, 5 September 2013 - The Embassies of France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom and the United States in Kosovo, in a joint statement, have welcomed recent positive developments in relation to local elections due 3 November 201, a.
“These elections will be the first ones to be held in a uniform way in all Kosovo municipalities. We welcome the flexibility within the existing legal framework that Kosovo institutions have shown on the organisation of these elections, as well as the facilitation role that the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) will play in Kosovo’s four northern municipalities.
The technical decisions taken by the Central Elections Committee (CEC) on 2 September underlined Kosovo’s commitment to inclusivity which we hope will have a positive impact on the participation of political entities and voters from different communities across Kosovo, including those in the north of Kosovo.
We also welcome the fact that over 100 political parties, coalitions, citizens’ initiatives and independent candidates from across Kosovo have applied for certification by the 4 September deadline. Such diversity of representation is important for voter choice and the further consolidation of Kosovo’s democracy.
Finally, we encourage eligible voters residing abroad to apply for Out of Kosovo Voting by the revised deadline of 10 September. We hope to see the widest possible participation on election day and look forward to a lively campaign”.
