Prishtina, 10 December 2013 – Starting yesterday Kosovo formalized its SWIFT code for the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo, as well as commercial banks operating in the country. Kosovo’s Central Bank has announced through a statement that banks operating in Kosovo will now operate with the SWIFT code authorized by the Central Bank of Kosovo.
SWIFT code allows Kosovar banks the opportunity to have a unique identification, where through code would internationally be known that bank located in the Republic of Kosovo.
Therefore, from Monday Kosovo is independent in the banking system, detaching of the Serbian banking system through a code. With the independence of the Serbian banking system, Kosovar banking system emerges from isolation and banks can compete in the global market.
