Prishtina, 20 August 2013 – The Central Election Commission is going through a process which is violating its institutional independence and integrity, and even after the declaration of independence of this institution continues to be dependent on political and party processes and agreements, Alban Krasniqi from Self-Determination Movement said at a press conference, on Tuesday.
According to Krasniqi, Self-Determination Movement had previous conceptual differences for institutional leadership and responsibility, over the duties, responsibilities and functions of CEC prescribed by law and the Constitution, and these differences and divisions deepened even more after the introduction of the head of the CEC in Edita Tahiri’s political negotiation team with representatives of the Serbian government.
Adnan Rrustemi CEC Secretariat worker, who is soon to replace Alban Krasniqi in the Central Election Commission, said that recent developments in the CEC, involvement of Head of CEC in negotiations with Serbia, attempts of the OSCE to have executive and operational role in organizing the elections in northern Kosovo, ruined all the conditions and possibilities, overturned hopes within this institution to work and operate professionally and in accordance with the constitution and laws of the Republic of Kosovo.
“It is already clear that the organization of local elections of 3rd November does not have as its priority and primary purpose the organizing of free and fair elections with integrity, bias or eliminating defects identified by the last election, though disguising the maximum implementation of the agreement with Serbia and the establishment of an association of municipalities with Serbian majority,” Rrustemi said.
