Washington, 24 December 2013  - The prime ministers of Serbia and Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi and Ivica Dacic, and High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton were formally nominated by a group of U.S. lawmakers for a Nobel Peace Prize for 2014.

In a joint announcement of lawmakers, Eliot Engel and Robert Aderholt, co-chairs of the group of Albanian issues in Congress and lawmakers Ted Poe and Emanuel Cleaver, co-chairs of Serbian issue group, said that three officials should honor with the Nobel Prize for their critical role for the normalization of relations of Kosovo with Serbia.

Justification stated that the agreement in April of this year, between the two prime ministers, marks a dramatic turning point for Serbia and Kosovo, and for the entire troubled Balkan region. Also mentions that from October 2012 until the end of this year, the two prime ministers have met 20 times with the mediation of the EU, reaching agreement on sensitive issues between the two countries.
